Responsible Leaderhip
Looking for visuals and charts, rather than words, to understand the daily news?
Bay Area Times is a visual-based newsletter on business and tech, with 250,000+ subscribers.
One of the challenges with leadership research is that there are about 50+ "brands" moving forward concepts that are all relatively, equally important.
Today, I'm not going to make it any clearer or better - but I am going to share a new framework I stumbled on that I think would make all of us more powerful.
In a presentation I organized for an athletic department going through major changes, I stumbled on an amalgamated theory of leadership that feels as holistic and complete as I could imagine.
That theory? Responsible leadership.
The name alone has a good ring to it and conveys the integrity required to lead effectively. But what I liked most about it was the 3 pillars it was built on, and how those pillars allow leaders who develop each part of the framework to flexibly respond to times of great success and adversity.
Here's what they look like:
Responsible leadership is a combination of transformational leadership, authentic leadership, and servant leadership (but not the kind of servant leadership that's been popularized).
If you can combine these 3 styles, you've got a dynamic and resilient leader capable of moving an organization forward in good times and bad.
Take the time to honestly assess what you do well and where you could improve. Then, set a goal around improving one dimension of your leadership performance.
