Perform is Becoming Momentum

In partnership with

I’m so grateful for each of you who have been on this journey to uncover the science and secrets of mental training so that you can be your best when it matters most.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you some important updates. As my audience, it’s important to tell you this story so that you’re fully up to speed with the evolution of Perform.

The year it took to launch Momentum Labs has been one of the most important and impactful of my life.

They say when you’re building a business, the most important thing you can do is talk to customers. After having talked to several hundred, it’s clear that there’s a real need to teach parents, coaches, and youth athletes mindset skills to thrive in sports, school, work, and life.

The problem is ensuring the quality of the services and provider and helping the services feel accessible.

There have been countless stories that have undermined the real good mindset training can do:

  • Gurus swinging around illicit objects in a locker room

  • Former coaches exploiting future stars

  • Untrained paraprofessionals peddling simple solutions like “just believe in yourself”

(This last one is a real example from a current client of mine, who left his last coach because this was all the advice boiled down to).

We need to do better.

The need is greater than ever before, too.

Youth sports will likely be impacted by the flood of private equity dollars into the ecosystem and the plan to pay college athletes. Parents are increasingly concerned about their children’s ability to handle failure, build confidence, and learn the real lessons from sport as the focus turns more to getting noticed than getting better. Coaches are at a loss for how to help athletes master mindset skills AND what they need to know for games.

And I still believe that mindset coaching is the next frontier for elite performance.

Perform is pivoting to Momentum, a newsletter focused on individual, team, and organizational performance for athletes, parents, and coaches.

What will stay the same

First and foremost, Momentum will still all be about helping people unlock their full potential using science-backed tools from psychology. My commitment to making the principles and practices of high performers available to everyone isn’t changing one bit!

The content will remain largely the same - science-backed, experience-tested tools and principles to promote health and high performance in each of these spaces. The focus for the audience will just shift slightly to the ecosystem I’m working so passionately to improve. If you continue to read the content, I’m confident it’ll be applicable to you whether you’re a parent, coach, athlete, leader, or executive.

Regardless of your involvement in sports, you’ll be able to find actionable tools you can use today to help yourself think, feel, and perform better.

What this change means

In the coming months, I’ll be putting content into the app (you can download Momentum as an app now!) that you can practice with meditations, journaling prompts, and more.

I’ll also be writing more practical tips for parents and coaches to help their athletes at any level, sharing more of the models I used to build my high-performance system in Toronto, and ways I think about improving this ecosystem to support positive youth development.

This is a true labor of love, a passion to make the ecosystem that’s been so good to me - sport - the best it can be.

I am grateful for the time and attention you’ve given Perform and for your commitment to reading. It’s been an honor of mine to share what I know and love with you - and I’m going to continue to do just that. But if the new direction no longer feels like a fit for you, I understand if you choose to unsubscribe.

If you choose to stay

I’m excited to give you an inside look into everything we’re doing and what I’m learning with Momentum Labs, in addition to the best practices of elite sport. I’ll also share more about my journey as a founder and what I’m learning about my own leadership, as well as the tools I’m using to solve these problems in live time.

I’m committed to providing a world-class experience here and am confident that what’s coming in the future can help you unlock your full potential - and that’s your reward for choosing to stick around.
