July's Mental Fitness Workouts
Summer is often a time to try new things. Work is just a bit slower. People are spending more time outside and on vacation.
It’s an opportunity to try some out-of-the-box skill-building to enhance your mental fitness.
Here’s what to try in July.
Workout 1: Learning a Musical Instrument
Playing music is an excellent cognitive workout, for kids and adults alike. Research suggests learning to play an instrument can enhance memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills.
For this workout, pick up an old or new instrument, and spend 5-10 minutes per day, 3x per week, learning to play. You can use YouTube as your guide, or, if you’re up for it, get a coach!
You can learn more about the benefits of music here.
Workout 2: Take an Improv Class
Improv is a great way to build your mental fitness. In addition to building creativity, critical thinking, and cognitive flexibility skills, improv classes can boost confidence and improve our communication skills. Plus, this kind of activity allows us to actively practice overcoming our fears of things like public speaking, making a mistake, or saying something dumb.
Research suggests that improv also gives us a leg up in managing some of the typical challenges we all face, including managing uncertainty. And, in the process, it boosts our positive affect.
If you’re looking to improve your executive performance through 1:1 coaching, I have two spots available from July onward.
Please send me an email if you’d be interested in working together.
